BUFF.
“The Buff Ledge account concerns two camp workers, commonly identified as Michael Lapp and Janet Cornell, who reported an encounter near Lake Champlain on August 7, 1968.”
The names used in published accounts should not be assumed to identify otherwise private people.
Walter N. Webb investigated the case after the original event. His monograph Encounter at Buff Ledge: A UFO Case History was published by the Center for UFO Studies in 1994. It is a substantial investigative narrative, rather than a contemporaneous official finding that an abduction occurred.
Delayed reporting and the contribution of later interviews matter. Two people appearing in an account do not automatically provide two independent confirmations of every detail. This entry points readers to the published investigation and a contemporary organizational review; we have not examined Webb’s complete original interview archive. The map marks the reported area, not a surveyed encounter point.
Assessment: Retrospective investigation; original statement chronology and independence need further review.
