COLARES.
“Beginning in 1977, the island of Colares in the mouth of the Amazon River became the site of one of the most terrifying and physically documented UFO encounters in recorded history.”
The Brazilian Air Force responded with a classified investigation: Operation Saucer (Operação Prato), commanded by Captain Uyrangê Hollanda. Over four months, Hollanda's team documented hundreds of cases, interviewed over 300 witnesses, and photographed dozens of craft. The operation concluded in late 1977 with thousands of pages of classified files and hundreds of photographs that were stamped secret and locked away.
Captain Hollanda gave a bombshell interview in 1997 — shortly before his death in an apparent suicide — in which he described what his team had witnessed. He stated the craft were real, structured, intelligently controlled, and that the beams appeared designed to take biological samples from human beings. He expressed profound regret for not going public sooner.
In 2004, the Brazilian Air Force partially declassified the Operation Saucer files, releasing photos and witness statements. Brazil remains the only country in the world to have officially acknowledged military investigation of UFOs causing physical harm to civilians. The Colares flap is one of the most disturbing episodes in UFO history — not a distant light in the sky, but a documented campaign of physical assault.
