WESTALL.
“On April 6, 1966, at approximately 11:00 a.m., more than 200 students and several teachers at Westall State School in Melbourne, Australia watched a silver-grey, saucer-shaped object descend over a nearby paddock known as The Grange, land briefly in the tall grass, and then rise and accelerate away at extraordinary speed.”
Multiple witnesses reported that five small planes appeared in the area shortly after the craft left — as though they had been scrambling to intercept it. An Air Force man arrived at the school within hours. The headmaster reportedly threatened students and teachers with severe consequences if they spoke publicly about what they had seen. One teacher was pulled from class and warned to say nothing. A witness at a nearby golf course who photographed the craft claims her film was confiscated.
The case was largely suppressed for decades. In 2006, the 40th anniversary prompted a reunion of witnesses, many of whom had not spoken publicly. Researcher Shane Ryan spent years tracking down former students and staff. Their accounts, given independently four decades later, remained strikingly consistent in describing the craft, its motion, and the official response that followed.
What makes Westall remarkable is the sheer number of credible, educated witnesses — a school full of children and their teachers in broad daylight — and the documented government intimidation that followed. The cover-up at Westall appears far more deliberate than the initial sighting.
